ParaMix provides online R&B mixing for independent artists, producers and small labels. An R&B record is mixed from your stems with the R&B vocal sitting forward, a controlled low end, and a translation check of the R&B mix in four playback environments: car, headphones, phone speaker and low volume. The workflow runs fully remote: scope, quote and schedule agreed in writing before work starts, the first full mix delivered in 3–5 business days, and revisions unlimited inside the agreed direction. If the first mix is off, we revise it — or you cancel and get a full refund.
What you send
Clearly named WAV stems aligned to the same start point, your rough mix, tempo and sample rate, and 2–3 reference tracks noting what to keep or push.
What an R&B mix needs
An R&B mix lives or dies on the vocal, so the R&B vocal is treated as the record's centre rather than one element among many. In practice this means tuning that stays natural instead of obvious, de-essing and dynamic control that keep a close-miked R&B vocal intimate without dulling it, and a low end that supports the song rather than competing with it. Harmonies and stacked backgrounds are placed so they widen the R&B mix without pulling focus from the lead. Because R&B is often listened to on earbuds and phone speakers, every R&B mix we finish is checked in four playback environments before it is delivered, and the midrange is protected so the R&B vocal survives the small-speaker test.
Where R&B mixes usually go wrong
Most R&B records do not fail because of a missing plugin. They fail in four predictable places, and all four are balance decisions rather than gear decisions.
The lead vocal sits too far forward. In rap, the vocal is the record. In R&B, the vocal is one voice inside a harmony stack, and pushing it forward flattens the choir behind it. The fix is usually not a fader move but carving space in the instruments that occupy the same midrange.
The low end is one note. Sub, kick and bass all fighting for the same fundamental makes the whole track feel smaller, not bigger. Separating them by register and by envelope — not by volume — is what gives an R&B record its weight.
Reverb is used as a default. A long plate on every element turns the mix into fog. Space works when it is selective: one element drenched, everything else dry enough to make that choice audible.
The chorus does not lift. If the verse already uses the full stereo field and full brightness, the chorus has nowhere to go. Arrangement and automation create the lift; compression alone cannot.
Why does my R&B vocal sound thin on phone speakers?
Usually because the midrange carries too little of the vocal and the low end carries too much of the record.
Phone speakers cannot reproduce the sub and low bass that make an R&B mix feel full in the studio, so whatever weight was living down there simply disappears. What survives is the 1–4 kHz region. If the R&B vocal was thinned there to make room for pads and keys, the record reads as a backing track with a voice somewhere behind it.
Every R&B mix we finish is checked on a phone speaker, in a car, on headphones and at low volume before delivery, because each one exposes a different part of that balance.
What we listen for before touching a fader
Every R&B session gets the same first pass, and none of it involves processing.
We check whether the vocal comp is finished — an unfinished comp cannot be mixed around, only re-cut. We check tuning decisions, because pitch correction applied after mixing forces the whole balance to be rebuilt. We check whether the instrumental is a finished two-track or a full multitrack, since that changes what is recoverable. We check the rough mix the artist lived with, because it encodes the intent even when it is technically wrong.
Only then do we start. It is slower on the first day and much faster afterwards, and it prevents the most expensive outcome in mixing: a technically clean mix that no longer sounds like the record the artist heard in their head.
A finished rough mix is not a requirement, but it is the most useful document you can send. It shows where the artist wanted the record to sit before any technical judgement was applied, and it makes the first conversation about intent rather than about taste.
How long does an R&B mix take?
The first full mix arrives in 3–5 business days, and the date is given at booking and held.
Turnaround is set by what arrives rather than by how dense the arrangement is. Clean, aligned stems move straight into balancing, while stems that need re-exporting add a cleanup pass before the clock starts. After the first full mix, revisions are unlimited inside the agreed direction and move at the speed the notes come back — one timestamped set per round is faster than notes spread across days.
Pricing
Test mix $50 (credited within 30 days) · single mix $150 · mix + master $195 · EP $399 · album $1,170/$1,350 · stem mastering only $60.
How much does R&B mixing cost?
A single-track R&B mix is $150, and a $50 test mix covers one section if you want to hear the treatment before committing.
The rate follows scope rather than song count alone: how many stems the session carries, whether mastering is part of the booking, and how much revision the direction is likely to need. An EP or album is quoted as one session so the R&B vocal sits in the same place across every song instead of drifting track by track.
The $50 test mix is credited toward a full mix booked within 30 days.
Quick answers
Can I get mastering only?
Yes — stem mastering is $60, mastering from your finished mix.
What are reference tracks and how many should I send?
Two or three references that are short, matched in loudness and swapped quickly work best. Note what you want kept or pushed — the mix is measured against your target, not a generic one.
How long does a mix take?
The first full mix arrives in 3–5 business days; finished, release-ready delivery is 7 business days. The date is given when the booking is confirmed and it is held.
